Ascomata obpyriform to ovoid, 450-550 _m diam, 500-550 _m high, erumpent superficial, papillate; surface tomentose, extensive; subiculum of abundant, brown hyphae. Wall of textura angularis in surface view; in longitudinal section uniformly 50-90 _m thick, two-layered, outer melanized crust (heavily melanized in upper half of ascomata), inner layer of polygonal to elongate, hyaline to light brown, pseudoparenchymatic cells. Papilla short to elongate, longitudinally compressed, 150-200 _m high, 200-250 _m wide; wall composed of small, heavily melanized cells; ostiole slit-like, 50-75 _m wide, with periphyses. Pseudoparaphyses 1.0-1.5 _m wide, numerous, trabeculate, with abundant lattice-like anastomoses, with gelatinous coating. Asci clavate, 175-200 x 22-27 _m (x = 191 ® 7.8 x 25 ® 1.6 _m, n = 10), short-stalked (stalk 20-35 _m long), numerous, basal and lateral partially lining the peripheral wall of the centrum, thick-walled, dehiscence unknown; apex rounded, apical chamber present, without ring; with eight, biseriate ascospores. Ascospores narrowly fusiform, (40-)44-52 x 6.5-8 _m (x = 47 ® 2.7 x 7.2 ® 0.6 _m, n = 25), hyaline, smooth, with sheath entirely surrounding spores (5-6 _m wide), without appendages, three-(five) septate, with constrictions at all septa.
